Interview Techniques

Prior to the interview think about the role that you have applied for and wear comfortable but appropriate clothing and foot-ware for the position.  For example, you would not wear jeans and T-shirt to attend interview for a job in Banking whereas it would be appropriate to wear those clothes to attend an interview for a mechanic's position!

During the interview you are likely to be likely to be asked questions on your skills and abilities, knowledge and experience and you will be assessed on your strength and weakness/areas for development.  Additionally, your personal characteristics will be examined.

Here are some general pointers for interview Techniques

Do get a full description of the position and duties
Do allow yourself enough time to get to the interview a few minutes early.  Late arrival for a job interview does not make a good impression
Do smile.  If a hand shake is offered, shake hands firmly
Do remain positive throughout the interview
Do look the interviewer in the eye
Do follow the interviewer’s lead and try to incorporate your experience and skills accordingly
Do arrive on time
Do greet the interviewer by his or her title and surname
Do be a good listener
Do be factual and concise
Do research the company’s history, financial performance, products and services

Do not answer questions with simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer
Do not answer questions in an ambiguous way
Do not undersell yourself
Do not lie.  Answer questions truthfully, frankly and as close to the point as
possible
Do not talk negatively about your present or former employers
Do not moan and groan about mundane tasks
Do not waffle
Do not ask about salary, holidays etc at the first interview stage
